044. Diagnosis

DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS

SYMPTOM(S): Uncontrollable Laughter
                          Chest Pain
                          Clumsiness
                          Which caused cranial bleeding.

POSSIBLE DIAGNOSIS:
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis--it explains the chest pains, clumsiness and the laughter. The curse is accelerating the effects the degeneration process of the disease, usually it's a lot more slow. Search for DNA abnormalities or any hereditary link.

Pseudobulbar palsy onset by a tumor in the high brain stem or motor neurone diseases that would cause the disorder int he brain stem and spinal column.

Dementia (scribbled in) by Kuru causes the laughter as well as the inability to cooperate. The laughter would be causing the chest pains all the way down to clumsiness if that's the case.

CJD-?

The first two are not entirely treatable. A sample of tricyclic antidepressants would rule out dementia.

[ooc;
Curse or not, he'd want to diagnosis this. Since House is kind of an investigatory doctor, for nowit is just ruling out different diagnosiseses since tomorrow is OH SNAP THIS ISN'T NORMAL day. Any questions, comments or things I shouldn't be doing plz do AIM me. That's why God LJ made edits.]

You just get a vibe from it with your sangria senses?

[Shakes his head and thoughtfully sucks on the lollipop.]

Personally I don't think 'it feels like mud' is accurate enough to rule out Kuru. But if someone has been contaminating the food or contaminating something else to invoke Kuru...

Yep.

So what are the other symptoms?

[lying on the table, not like that]

[identity profile] vicodincrutch.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Difficulty communicating--because of the laughing, clumsiness. No hallucinations. The hysteric laughing would be part of the dementia if it is Kuru.

Huh.

[Sucks on her lollipop]

So how do you fix it?

[lying on the table, not like that]

[identity profile] vicodincrutch.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Fix CJD? There isn't a surefire quick fix. There have been modifications in the malaria vaccine to treat the symptoms but ultimately there is no cure just yet.

[Shifts sucker to the other side of his mouth.]

There have been successful short term cases with Pentosan polysulfate injections into the ventricular system.

Hell if I'm healin' anyone.

So lets get with those injections, yeah? Only don' make me do it, that's a bad idea.

I was so going to ask you. Not.

No treatment until the diagnosis is confirmed. The MRI results are being expedited.
eiremagic: (Eden - don't pull a fast one on me)

What if they're dead by then?

You really suck at this game.

Why would he be dead, the symptoms are accelerated...

[Checks pager, checks cellphone. No notifications. House chucks another lollipop.]
eiremagic: (Eden - hide)

[Catch!]

Well, I'm only seventeen, I'm not actually a doctor.

[Bites the candy from the stick and tosses it in the rubbish bin.]

Did you know you're about as smart as an average doctor?
eiremagic: (Eden - looks kind of regal)

Makes me worry about the health system.

If you're worried now you haven't been paying attention.
eiremagic: (Eden - Hey wait)

Haven' had much reason to go to a doctor.

[She sits up]

'sides, I bet me blood is weird.

[identity profile] vicodincrutch.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Because you see all and know all.

[Tilts his head.]

If you keep slouching you could develop scoliosis.

[Takes can off from hanging on the white board and sits down.]

Of course it is weird. You're magic.

Not all of us have the money to waste when we're not dyin'.

[Picks up her book]

A curvature or misalignment of the spine.

Fancy.

Just because there isn't pain doesn't mean that there is health.

[Rubs his forehead.]

Hunched over people are all the rage in France.

[Bah. Vicodin time.]
eiremagic: (Eden - Right)

Doesn't change the fact that I was dead broke.

[Watching him pop a pill]

[identity profile] vicodincrutch.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
No charity cases for you.

[Pill is popped. House has an expression on his face like he's daring her to say something about it.]
